Right from the Beginning...
Pink and Red Levels (Pre Ballet and Ballet Fundamentals):
Ages 3 1/2 thru 9
Loving to learn...
Pre Ballet and Ballet Fundamentals classes are a beautiful beginning for dancers! Young students embrace learning within the structure of a ballet class...barre exercises...center combinations...steps across the floor...acting & improvisation... all while they learn about music and great composers (Bach, Handel, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, etc.). Don't be surprised if your little one starts counting in French or saying "Merci" ("Thank you" in French) after class.
We enjoy working with our young dancers knowing that they are developing valuable skills and a great foundation for dance. Parents love the structure of the class and the welcoming environment, and the students leave class happy, inspired, and eager to learn more!
Performance Opportunities...
All students participate and play an important role in City Ballet performances. Joining with City Ballet Company members, our young performers participate in two full length ballets at the Wilson Center during the year. These performances are complete works of art with beautiful costumes (provided), scenery, and with music by great classical and contemporary composers. Whether the ballet is from traditional and historic ballet repertoire (The Nutcracker) or an original ballet based on great literature (The Snow Queen), City Ballet performances are a unique learning opportunity and an inspiration for each student.
City Ballet performances are enjoyable and "stress free" both onstage and offstage...
Rehearsals for the performances take place during their regular weekly class, and are designed to enhance the learning experience without consuming valuable class time. Professionally designed and handcrafted costumes are provided for all students and company members (an enormous savings for families). Parents may volunteer to help behind the scenes, but this is optional and not required. For your children's safety, we provide check-in and check-out procedures along with excellent supervision behind the scenes. When students are not performing, they are able to watch the performance from supervised areas of the auditorium. They love watching the older dancers, and are proud to perform with them!
